AFC Membership

Membership is open to all those who enjoy flying slope soarers or would like to learn to fly slope soarers.
There is no requirement for previous experience. We encourage newcomers to the slope to join the Club, not only for Insurance purposes, but also to gain from the experience available from experienced members. Membership fees are R 150 per year.

AFC MEMBERSHIP OFFERS YOU:

  • Advice and Help with getting started. 
  • Slope meets - Wind Permitting. 
  • Annual Slope-Fly Weekend in Hermanus on the last weekend of November.
  • Experienced members to assist you on those first flights and teach you the finer points.
  • Insurance cover from the SAMAA (national authority over model aviation)

Gull Slope Grades

 

THE GULL SLOPE AEROBATIC GRADES - From MGA publication

Conditions

15. Pilots must perform the schedule of maneuvers in the order listed, to be judged by at least one higher Gull holder

or by at least two competent judges, who will score each maneuver out of 10.

16. To pass a grade, an overall average of 5 per maneuver must be achieved, subject to a minimum of 3 on any one

maneuver.

17. As many attempts may be made on any one outing as the pilot wishes and/or his judges will allow, but the

schedule must be completed in the correct, unbroken sequence.

18. The Diamond `A’ grade must be achieved flying an aircraft designed and built by the pilot, flying the Diamond

schedule but he must score an average of 6 per maneuver with a sub-minimum of 4 for any one maneuver. He must

also submit a written article on his aircraft’s design and development and must place in the first three in the Expert

Class in a National Slope Aerobatic Championship.

19. All maneuvers are described in the Aerobatic Contest Rules, with the exception of the inverted rectangle, which

is the same as the landing pattern but starts and ends with half-rolls, which are part of the maneuver, and without the

loss of height.

F86 Building

We have started a building project for the SAAF Museum for the 60th commemoration of the Korean War which has now been completed.

The completed model was handed over to museum curator Chris Teale and staff on Friday 20th August 2010.
