An excellent days flying with good wind and warm sunshine. Of course, that's not quite how it started out. Most people got to the slope around
10h45 and at 11h15 a small rain shower and temperature drop drifted past and soon cleared.

This was followed by a welcome and pilot's briefing conducted by Bobby. The day saw a relaxed environment where everyone got some good sticktime. Coffee, hot dogs and cooldrinks were available for the club members. Thanks to Peter for the use of the bakkie to heat the water and to Belinda for doing the necessary at the shops.

On the flying front: He is a rundown of the members who attended and what they were flying - apologies in advance if I have left anyone out.

  • Bobby Purnell: Nyoni, Strike and A-Batic saw some air. The winds were too light for the Mustang, which remained on it's dolly.
  • Andrew Basson: Bee and Toucan. The Toucan was involved in a mid-air with Martin Venn's Toucan, piloted by Anton Benning. Mine went home in a bag of bits. Martin's had a leading edge ding - such is life.
  • Peter Vergeer: Bee, Strike and Nyoni.
  • Simon Pfontenhauer: Phase 6 had a good run for an 18 year old airframe.
  • Bruce Southwood: Bee and Filip. The Filip had been repaired and flew really well - needs some landing practice when the sky is not so busy.
  • Andy Rose-Innes had a BD5 own design fresh off the idea board which flew really well and carved up the sky.
  • Brian Jones and his son flew a wing and the "fridge" - a white correx plane. Peter Vergeer had
  • Anton Benning: Little Hawk in US Navy livery. Looked dashing with the orange tips against the dark clouds.
  • Charlie Blakemore: Phase 6, Swift, Little Mustang and large scale Sabre. Charlie spent the most time in the air out of all of us.
  • Maarten de Groot: Puffin, Mustang, T-Tail. Maarten maidened a little Mustang which was very twitchy, tip stalling and survived two hectic landings before secumbing to the last impact.
  • Rory Netterville: A bee perhaps?
  • Ross Leighton: Big Impala and Opus. The Opus was shunting in the lighter afternoon conditions and looked good. Not enough lift for the Imp.
  • David Pratt: Arrived towards the end of the day and was teaching a mate to fly.
  •  Lee Hope: Let the planes at home and took the photo's - thanks Lee.

All in all a great day's entertainment and the warm weather made it so much more enjoyable.

See you at the next Slope Fly, Andrew.
